Stockport LGBT History Month 2008

LGBT History Month 2008

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans History Month is organised primarily by Age Concern and People Like Us Stockport.


The following events are planned for February 2008:

  • Friday 1st 7-9pm at Hazel Grove Youth Centre, Jackson Lane
    Holocaust memorial event presented by young disabled people.

  • Saturday 2nd 3-7pm at Stockport Art Gallery
    Art in Knit; join us to explor some great yarns - Our Proud Heritage - a conversation with Jack Gilbert; LGBT style and identity through the ages. Free refreshments.


  • Monday 4th 2-4pm at Stockport Art Gallery
    Moving Forward Training Pack launch, Steve Pugh, Salford University and talk by Kevin Bolton - Manchester Archives LGBT developments.

  • Thursday 7th 7:30pm at The Plaza Cinema
    Film: Victim - starring Dirk Bogarde.

  • Saturday 9th 10:30-11:30am at Stockport Central Library
    Pink Parents and children event, story and craft activity. Free refreshments.

  • Saturday 9th 2-3:30pm at Stockport Central Library
    Poetry and readings by local poets, and the re-launch of the PLUS reading group. Free refreshments.

  • Sunday 10th 11am, meet at the Wellbeing Centre, Chestergate
    PLUS walk - Tiviot Dale and Reddish. All welcome.

  • Sunday 10th 3pm at St Agnes Church, Gorton Lane, Reddish
    Church Service conducted by Rev Clive Larsen.


  • Wednesday 13th 7:30pm at Arden Arms, Millgate
    The ever popular Quiz Night.

  • Saturday 16th 11am, meet at the Wellbeing Centre, Chestergate
    PLUS walk - Newbridge Lane. All welcome.

  • Sunday 17th 11am-1pm at the Wellbeing Centre, Chestergate
    Charity Coffee and Cake Morning raising funds for the Albert Kennedy Trust.

  • Sunday 17th 2pm, meet at the Wellbeing Centre, Chestergate
    Edward Carpenter, a talk by Sheila Rowbottom at the Working Class Movement Library Salford.


  • Thursday 21st 7:30pm at Stockport Labour Club, Lloyd Street
    Karaoke evening - The Base and PLUS group.

  • Saturday 23rd 1:30-3pm at Staircase House, Marketplace
    Coming Out of History. Comparing gay life today with Roman/Romano-British period. Drop in sessions.


  • Thursday 28th 7:30pm at Stockport Central Library
    Battle of the Ages - Quiz Night. The Base Youth Project take on People Like Us Stockport in a battle of knowledge.

  • Friday 29th 7pm at Arden Arms, Millgate
    Grand finale with speaker Paul Patrick, national LGBT History Month Co-ordinator.


All the events are free to attend unless stated otherwise and have wheelchair access.

Also throughout the month there will be displays in Stockport Libraries, The Hatworks, Stockport College and Pop in Centre.
